Want to spot which birds are here on campus this spring? Moore Lab's Director John McCormack and postdoctoral researcher Ryan Terrill will be leading staff and faculty (students welcome too!) around Oxy grounds for bird walks on Friday, March 18 and Friday, April 8. Join us as we take a look at the birds that are visiting us during spring migration!

Let us know if you'll be there, RSVP with Jenny Wong at jwong3@oxy.edu.

We'll be meeting outside in front of the Moore Lab entrance (next to the Sycamore Glen) at 8:00 a.m. for both bird walks. Bring your binoculars, and we will also have some to share.

About Us

Dr. McCormack is the Director and Curator of the Moore Laboratory of Zoology, and an Associate Professor in Biology. John uses museum specimens and genomes to study the evolutionary history of birds, focusing especially on how both ancient landscape changes and more recent human-caused environmental changes affect birds' distributions, appearance, and DNA.

Dr. Terrill is Moore Lab's Postdoctoral Researcher. As the lead on the Mexican Bird Resurvey Project, Ryan is using big biodiversity data and genomic tools to understand how a century of human-caused change has impacted birdlife. Dr. Terrill studies the evolution of bird molt and is an expert on local birds. He serves on the California Bird Records Committee, the group that compiles the official state bird list.
