Application Requirements

Oxy fosters a global community, and whether you're an international first year or an international transfer, we’d like to hear from you.

International first-year applicants, here’s what you need to do:

Complete the:

*$65 non-refundable application fee or fee waiver/counselor letter required.

Ask your counselor to send:

  • an official transcript
  • both the School Report and Counselor Recommendation forms
  • a Midyear Report and updated transcript after your first term of senior year

Request two letters of recommendation from teachers (in core academic subjects). Ideally, we’d like letters from 10th to 12th grade classes.

Submit your standardized test scores. Either the TOEFL or IELTS exam, and either the ACT or SAT are required. SAT Subject Tests are optional.

Consider Early Decision if Oxy’s your top choice and you will not be applying for financial aid. Then you’ll need to complete a binding Early Decision Agreement (available on the Common App).

For applicants from China there is an opportunity for the Occidental College admission team to get to know you better through the services of InitialView and Vericant. InitialView and Vericant are two organizations that will conduct video interviews and offer short writing samples for our applicants. Both organizations provide a recording of the interview and a copy of the writing sample to us for our review

Although an interview is not mandatory, we highly recommend you sit for the Vericant or InitialView interview only if you have not already interviewed with Occidental, as it will give you an excellent opportunity to showcase your personality, skills and professionalism to our admission team. The interview will form part of your application package if you opt to sit the interview.

International transfer applicants, here’s what you need to do:

Keep in mind that we only accept applications for students to begin in fall semester.

Complete the:

*$65 non-refundable application fee or fee waiver/counselor letter required.

Ask a college administrator to send:

  • an official transcript
  • College Official’s Report

Request a letter of recommendation from a college instructor.


  • an official copy of your final secondary school transcript
  • official copies of transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • a writing sample from a college course (graded, if possible)
  • standardized test scores—either the TOEFL* or IELTS is required and also the ACT or SAT if you graduated high school within five years

*Some international applicants may be required to have a Skype interview. If English is not your first language, and you have a TOEFL score in which any section falls below 25 (IBT) or below 150 (paper-based), we may contact you in February or March to schedule an interview.
