A message from the Library’s Center for Digital Liberal Arts (CDLA) outlining some of the ways it can support faculty teaching and student learning in the coming year.
Dear Faculty,
- Samantha Alfrey, Arts and Humanities
- Diego Coaguila, First Year Experience and CSP
- Lilly E. Linden, Sciences
- Jacob Alden Sargent, Social Sciences
- Yovanna Cifuentes-Goodbody, Language Teaching and Learning
- Darren Hall, Academic Technology
Schedule a library research workshop for CSP or for upper division courses. We work with you to plan workshops that advance students’ information and digital literacy skills, whether you need students to find books electronically, dive deep into disciplinary databases, discover high-quality images, or manage large datasets. We are able to offer synchronous or asynchronous workshop materials, or point you to videos that we've already developed. You can book a workshop by contacting your Specialist directly.
Request a course-specific LibGuide to coordinate with assignments in your course. While many of our LibGuides are divisional or disciplinary, we also develop Research Guides curated for specific course content, highlighting databases and electronic materials for your assignments. As an example, please see a LibGuide created for Professor Sharla Fett's class this Spring. We can collaborate in updating disciplinary guides or create course-specific guides, as part of an asynchronous effort to point students directly to what they need.
Please feel free to include the following information for students in your syllabus or Moodle site:
Finding Research Help
The librarians and disciplinary specialists in the Center for Digital Liberal Arts (CDLA) can help you find sources, use library resources, and refine your research focus. Book a one-on-one research appointment with a specialist at libcal.oxy.edu
Peer Tutoring
The Subject Advisers and Language Advisers are available virtually to support many of Oxy’s academic departments and programs. The Advisers are upper-division students who have been recommended by faculty, and provide help for their peers by clarifying key concepts from their classes, and by demonstrating how to study more effectively. Find their up to date hours here: http://bit.ly/
Remote Learning Peer Tech Support
The Critical Making Studio is shifting gears to offer peer to peer support and training for students as you adapt to new learning technologies. This group of students can provide asynchronous training materials or meet with you virtually to help troubleshoot. Note: if your tech is broken, missing, or just not working, start with the helpdesk@oxy.edu for the fastest support response.
We’re here to help, so please reach out with any questions and look out for additional information in the upcoming Library newsletter.
