Student Life

Occidental College offers a vibrant, close-knit liberal arts college experience in the heart of Los Angeles. That’s something you won’t find anywhere else.

Curious and engaged by nature, Oxy students are known for making the most of every opportunity. Check out a new Oxy Arts exhibit. Write for The Occidental newspaper. Shine onstage in Dance Production. Work in the FEAST organic garden. And of course, living in L.A. provides limitless opportunity to explore, get involved, and expand your classroom experience.

Our campus community brings together students from a wide range of backgrounds; more than half identify as domestic students of color or international students. At Oxy, you'll find a campus that embraces diverse identities, perspectives, and beliefs. Explore what student life has to offer and get an introduction to the people, places, and experiences that make Oxy unlike any other campus.

Get Involved!

Oxy has no shortage of opportunities to try new things, explore your passions, and meet new people. Join student government or one of our many other student clubs, play an intramural sport, or take part in community service.

Living on Campus

In terms of life on campus, there’s a three-year campus residency requirement, though most students stay for four. Our 13 residence halls plus themed and multicultural housing options help make the experience uniquely yours.

Campus Dining & Local Eats

Between Marketplace, the Tiger Cooler, and the student-run Green Bean coffee shop, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for at any given moment.

Studying in Los Angeles

Beyond campus life, the surrounding Eagle Rock and Highland Park neighborhoods are full of food trucks, record stores, and art galleries. You can also bike through the arts district downtown, eat your way through Koreatown, or feel the ocean breezes in Venice. Need transportation? We’ve got you.

Getting involved at Oxy feels easy and natural. There’s always something happening on campus, whether it’s a club event, arts and crafts in the quad, or even animal therapy days...opportunities to connect are just part of everyday life here. It's easy to find people with shared interests and feel like you’re part of the larger community.
