Stocked with a carefully curated selection of books from the Occidental College Library, Community Reading Hours provides an opportunity to peruse a selection of art and culture books, while learning more about the themes presented this season at Oxy Arts, enjoying free coffee, meeting new neighbors and relaxing in our gallery space.

Tuesdays, Office Hours with Gustavo Arellano
Occidental College's Institute for the Study of Los Angeles brings a scholar in residence to campus each year to work with community members and students. This semester we are thrilled to bring journalist and author Gustavo Arellano to Oxy.
Join us every Tuesday at Oxy Arts for open office hours with Gustavo. This is an open call to Oxy students and the public, where everyone is welcome to stop in and have a conversation with Gustavo. Enjoy free coffee, snacks, and peruse books related to the Spring exhibition.
Gustavo Arellano is a featured writer for the Los Angeles Times, covering everything Southern California, the West and beyond. He previously worked at the OC Weekly, where he was an investigative reporter for 15 years and editor for six, wrote a celebrated column called ¡Ask a Mexican! and is the author of several books, including Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America. He’s the child of two Mexican immigrants, one of whom came to this country in the trunk of a Chevy.
Arellano's residency is part of ISLA's Spring 2020 public event theme of Street/Space, exploring the connections between LA's built environment and the cultures and communities that interface with public space.
