The Chavez & Huerta Day of Service is an event coordinated by the office of Student Leadership, Involvement, and Student Engagemnet (SLICE). Since Oxy students have transitioned to remote learning for the rest of spring semester, this year's day of service will be a virtual opportunity to learn about the historical farmworker's movement and current labor and immigration issues facing our community today.

This day of service is in honor of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, two of the most significant leaders in the American farmer’s movement. Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). The aim of the the Chavez-Huerta Day of Service is to engage Oxy students, staff, and faculty in a community-based project that embodies the spirit of justice.
