"An Exploration of Soul, Body and Spirit." Feat. John Zender & Restorative Justice for the Arts

John Zender attended Otis Art Institute Los Angeles and received a Printing Certificate from University of California Los Angeles.  After the LA Riots in 1992 John saw the opportunity to create positive messages through Murals.  This led a 15-year trajectory of mural art in Los Angeles.   His murals have been seen in many motion pictures, and commercials.  He has produced over 500 murals during his artistic career.

Brenda Perez is an Indigenous Mexican-American/Chicana, born and raised in Highland Park, Northeast Los Angeles. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Depth Psychology focusing on Community psychology, Liberation psychology, Indigenous psychology and Ecopsychology. Brenda investigates gentrification as a form of internal colonialism in the historic Mexican neighborhood of Highland Park, which currently feeds L.A.’s homelessness crisis.

Join the Intercultural Community Center (1501 Campus Road) for an interactive spray paint workshop 9/9 from 5-7pm. The ICC will provide an assortment of art materials, including 4x8 wood panels, for participants. The session will be co-led by John Zendar and Brenda Perez from Restorative Justice for the Arts.

The event follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines set out by the College, and masks will be provided by the ICC.
