Please join us via zoom for a panel discussion on Disability, Advocacy and Rights.
This panel will explore the field of disability in relation to human rights, and will feature advocacy in different regions and settings (including in conflict situations, in East Africa and Latin America, and within the UN system). We will highlight examples of strategic advocacy and current opportunities and challenges in disability activism.
The event will be moderated by Cynthia Rothschild, Director of the Kahane UN Program, and will feature Silvia Quan, a Guatemala-based feminist disability rights activist and former member of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; Felicia Mburu, Kenyan-based lawyer and activist who has focused on, among other topics, advocacy within the African Commission on Human and People's Rights; Will Pons, Senior Legal Advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and Andrea Parra, an expert in disability and human rights, an attorney, and a feminist legal activist and trainer based in Colombia.
