See L.A.’s wild parrots gather at Pasadena City Hall by the hundreds at sunset!
When you hear or see parrots in the city do you wonder where they’re headed for the night? Roosting sites are a wonderful way to observe hundreds of parrots and parakeets gather during winter evenings. Moore Lab of Zoology launched the Free-flying Los Angeles Parrot Project (FLAPP), where we’re looking closely at the DNA of both the Red-crowned and Lilac-crowned Parrots and analyzing community science observations along the way. These Amazona sister species are native to opposite coasts of Mexico and never meet, but in L.A. they mingle, roost, and even hybridize.
The Moore Lab will be waiting for the flock as the sun sets and we’ll be in front of Pasadena City Hall at 4:15 p.m. Let us know you’ll be parrot watching with us by sending in a RSVP on Eventbrite. All are welcome to join.
