Alumni Reunion Weekend returns to campus—and Oswald put on a party to remember
For the first time in three years, Alumni Reunion Weekend returned to campus—just in time to welcome the returning classes of 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017. Nearly 425 alumni (including guests) turned out over the weekend, with 1972 leading the way, followed closely by 1987.
With President Harry J. Elam, Jr. presenting, the Alumni Seal Awards were handed out on Saturday. Brad Fauvre ’87, president of Velocity Vehicle Group, a privately held commercial vehicle dealership, was honored as alumnus of the year during the 2022 Alumni Seal Awards. Woody Studenmund, Laurence De Rycke Professor of Economics, received the faculty emeritus Seal Award. Other honorees included Jake Stevens ’08, vice president of Faring, a progressive real estate firm based in West Hollywood (Erica J. Murray ’01 Young Alumni Award); Luis Céspedes ’74 M’81, judicial appointments secretary for Gov. Gavin Newsom (professional achievement); Lt. Dawn (Gruber) Callahan ’09, group surgeon for Commander Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific in the U.S. Navy (professional achievement); Ray Yen ’82, past Board of Governors president and co-chair of the Oxy Fund executive and leadership gift committees (service to the College); Clarissa Martinez de Castro ’89, deputy vice president for policy and advocacy at UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization (service to the community); and Eddie Gorton ’01, principal of Colfax Charter Elementary School in the Los Angeles United School District (service to the community).
More than 300 people attended the Saturday night dinners (including Elizabeth Benson '02, shown posing with Oswald, above) and a total of 82 people attended Sunday morning’s Fifty Year Club induction and brunch. Check out other snapshots from the weekend below.
