Senior Fellow

Katrina is a first-generation student Diplomacy and World Affairs with a double minor in Black Studies and Economics from Thornton, Colorado. Her connection to her family in Kenya and Togo is what first drove her towards an interest in global affairs. She has particular affinity and deep care for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), as well as first-generation and low-income students. As a result, during her time at Oxy Katrina has participated in a variety of projects, events, and programs on-campus that center these students, their experiences, and joy. Whether that is through her planning of POC Formal, an event by and for students of color on campus, or her involvement as an Organizing Committee member of the Black Student Alliance. This past year Katrina, as a LEDA (Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America) Scholar, has participated in LEDA’'s Policy Project. During her time as a Policy Corps member, she engaged in conversations with hill staffers and many others involved with HigherEd policy and advocacy. In her Op-Ed, she wrote about the urgent need for intentional mental health support for BIPOC and FGLI students in higher education. Outside of her responsibilities inside and outside of school, Katrina enjoys sitting in the sun, listening to music, and getting food with her friends while exploring Los Angeles and different places within the state.
