Walter Miller served as a diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service for more than 20 years. He was last based in Athens as the State Department’s regional coordinator for refugee and migration issues across southern Europe. Previously, Walter led the Multilateral Affairs Directorate at the National Security Council, coordinating policy across the U.S. government related to the United Nations system. He also served as a deputy director for North Africa at the Department of State as well as a deputy political coordinator at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York, managing a team of negotiators on issues related to the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America at the UN Security Council. His other overseas positions included Baghdad, Basra, Jerusalem, Juba, and Mexico City. He has served as an adjunct associate professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs since 2017.
