As we move into the fall and the return of students to schools, Los Angeles County is tracking a steady increase in COVID-19 cases in the broader community.

For our own successful return to campus, it is important that each of us remains aware of the risks of COVID-19, and that we exercise collective judgment, caution and compassion to limit its impact on the Oxy community.

We continue to closely monitor for cases on campus, and are following Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines for managing the disease as it nears a more endemic stage. Those guidelines include the strong recommendation to wear masks when around others, especially in crowded indoor spaces. Wearing a mask continues to be one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

With that reminder, please plan to wear a mask at Convocation on Monday, Aug. 28, in Thorne Hall, and at other large gatherings in the coming days and weeks. Masks will be available at Convocation and other locations on campus for those who need them.

Please also continue to take additional precautions, including:

  • Staying home when you are sick
  • Getting tested when you have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Masking around others for ten days when you have a known exposure to COVID-19
  • Staying up-to-date on COVID-19 boosters
  • Alerting covidops@oxy.edu if you test positive for COVID-19

Thank you for helping to keep our community healthy and safe.

Sincerely,
