Participate in this year’s Convocation as the entire Oxy community celebrates the Class of 2026, the return to campus, and the year ahead.
Convocation is one of the College's oldest traditions, and in reviving the practice this fall after two years of pandemic disruption, we are returning to its original design as an event for the whole community, rather than solely for first-year students.
The Convocation Committee gathered input from across campus to envision a community celebration that welcomes the newest members to our academic community but that also brings us all together. You will recognize some cherished elements, and you will also see some changes to the program intended to mark this moment for all of us, as we begin the academic year with enthusiasm, celebration and joy!
The event will continue to include a procession of robed faculty and first-year students to Thorne accompanied by taiko drummers (back by popular demand), but the program itself will be brief, limited to welcoming remarks from various campus communities and a performance by the Glee Club. Following the event, I look forward to gathering with you on the Quad for lunch to celebrate Oxy’s vibrant community and our spirit of academic excellence as we begin the year.
