The John Parke Young Initiative on the Global Political Economy welcomes Leah Stokes, Anton Vonk Associate Professor of Political Science at UC Santa Barbara, as part of its Fall 2026 Speaker Series.
Stokes is the author of Short Circuiting Policy (Oxford University Press, 2020) and The Carbon Wave (2026), which tells the story of how the Inflation Reduction Act was built and asks whether it will survive. She co-hosts the podcast A Matter of Degrees. Her talk takes up the biggest U.S. climate investment as a case in the political economy of the energy transition.
