LLAS/Music Co-hosted Event
The Costa Rica Guitar Quartet aims to make serious and innovative work in the field of chamber music, and encourages the creation and dissemination of Costa Rican music. Their repertoire is comprised of works originally composed for this format, as well as adaptations and arrangements of universal repertoire from various periods, both academic and traditional or popular, using the resources and versatility of the guitar.
In July 2012 they won 2nd place in the III Competition of Guitar Ensembles in Mexico, organized within the XV Competition and International Guitar Festival of Taxco, sponsored by the prestigious guitarist Juan Carlos Laguna. In 2013 they participated with the Cartago Municipal Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Castella's Conservatory Castella with famed Concierto Andaluz by Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo. In 2014, they performed the premiere of Concert Uxarraci by Costa Rican composer Carlos Castro, the first concert for four guitars and orchestra in Central America.
Their first album titled "Eso es imposible" was premiered at the XVIII International Guitar Festival in Costa Rica. They also collaborated on the albums "New Composers ... New Visions: Costa Rican Chamber Music " and "Nosotros" with the work "Mobile 1" of Jose Mora-Jiménez and "Desde las Entrañas de mi Tierra" by composer Mauricio Zamora with "Camino a Turrialba".
This concert is made possible by the Marie Young Speakers Fund.
