Hinchliffe Rejoins Board of Trustees

Stephen F. Hinchliffe, Jr. '55, a past chairman of the Occidental College Board of Trustees, has returned to active status on the board after a 10-year absence.

"When I was asked by the leadership of the board of directors to relinquish my emeritus trustee status and return to regular board membership, I took note of the very effective presidential search process and, in particular, the selection of Jonathan Veitch to lead the College," Hinchliffe said. "I believe Jonathan will take Occidental to new heights of achievement and I am delighted to be an active participant in that journey."

Hinchliffe, who served on the board from 1970-1975 as an alumni trustee, from 1979-1999 as a trustee, and from 1999-2009 as an emeritus trustee, is the CEO of The Leisure Group, Inc. and BHH Management, Inc. He lives in Palos Verdes Estates with his wife Ann Louise Hoffmann '57.

After completion of his graduate work, he served in the U.S. Army, being discharged in 1960 with the rank of lieutenant. He then served as a consultant with McKinsey & Co. Inc. until 1964, when he founded The Leisure Group, Inc. and became chief executive officer and a director of the firm.

Hinchliffe is a retired director of Lyondell Chemical Company, AM International, and Fiberboard Corporation. He is past chairman of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA, past chairman and an honorary director of The Employers Group, past chairman of the Independent Colleges of Southern California, and past chairman of the Center Theatre Group.
