The Gates Cambridge Scholarship funds a year or more of graduate school at the University of Cambridge for leaders whose work is committed to improving the lives of others.

2023-2024 Deadlines:

National Deadline: TBA, usually in mid-October for U.S. applicants and in December or January for international applicants

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship aims to build a network of future leaders dedicated to improving others' lives by funding scholarships for graduate study (master's or doctorate degrees) at the University of Cambridge.

In order to be eligible to apply, an applicant must:

- be a citizen of any country outside of the U.K. (U.K. dual citizenship is usually okay if you've been living in the U.S.)

- be applying to pursue an eligible graduate degree at the University of Cambridge

Slight preference is given to candidates applying to a PhD at Cambridge.

Oxy application process:

To learn more about applying for graduate fellowships through Oxy's process, please view a recording of our spring 2023 information session.

You do not need to apply through Oxy for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, but you may choose to take advantage of the same summer advising given to Marshall, Mitchell, and Rhodes candidates at Oxy. To do so, please complete the Intent to Apply form by April 10th and email a draft of your Gates essay to by May 29th. You are then encouraged to participate in revision workshops and one-on-one meetings with the Fellowships Director in June-September to revise your application.

All applicants are also encouraged to share drafts of their Gates Cambridge essay with the Office of National and International Fellowships for advice.
