LOS ANGELES DESTROYS ITSELF! A book launch talk with MAC Prof. John Trafton

Why does Hollywood love destroying Los Angeles? From earthquakes and alien invasions to nuclear annihilation and apocalyptic fire, filmmakers have repeatedly imagined the city’s spectacular destruction. Drawing from his new book Los Angeles and Film: A Cultural History of 20th Century Hollywood, MAC Prof. John Trafton explores how disaster movies transform the city’s landmarks, landscapes, anxieties, and histories into cinematic spectacle.

Artist Talk and Screening with 2026 MAC Artist-in-Residence Anahid Yahjian

An Armenian/Bulgarian/American “third culture” diasporic artist and Oxy alumna, Yahjian will screen selected works and reflect on how she has braided experimental, collaborative, commercial, and personal strands of a media career while also sustaining her creative voice and spirit of experimentation. An “AMA” (Ask Me Anything) with the audience will follow.

This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP required.
