Theater and Performance Studies, Media Arts & Culture, and the Womxn in Cinema and Television Club present a screening of acclaimed artist and filmmaker Cauleen Smith's recently remastered and rereleased film 

 Viewer discretion is advised. We'll be hosting a small discussion about the film after the screening. We welcome all to come join us in this cinematic experience: non film people, non club members, we care not, all are welcome.

Phelan & Rater were writers and Executive Producers on Grey’s Anatomy for many years and went on to create the CBS series Doubt (starring Katherine Heigl), the NBC series Council of Dads, the CBS series Fire Country and the Humanitas Prize winning Disney+/Nat Geo series A Small Light.

Join us for the 19th Animation Show of Shows - a screening of acclaimed international short animated films followed by a Q&A with festival director Ron Diamond and MAC Professor Amanda Tasse. Films include academy award nominated Everything by David O’Reilly, a restoration of short film Hangman by Paul Julian and Les Goldman, and diverse short films exploring a range of topics from philosophy to racism. The screening is sponsored by the Media Arts & Culture Department (MAC).

There will be a pre-screening reception 6-7 PM outside of Choi with light refreshments served.

*Surgical grade or higher masks (N95, KN95, KN94) must be worn in the auditorium.

This screening is part of the Media Arts & Culture Department's Fall 2022 MAC Cinematheque series, which brings together the Occidental and Los Angeles communities to explore representational questions tied to a chosen theme.

The history of the United States cannot be disconnected from the history of words, images, and social practices which defined Jews as different than other Americans. Since the seventeenth century, before national independence and into the present day, the presence of Jews has challenged Americans' ideas about race, religion, and the fundamental matter of who counted as an American. Did this constitute anti-Semitism? What factors in American life impacted upon this powerful social force imported from Europe?
