How smoke from a local wildfire is affecting campus

4 p.m. While the California brushfires currently in the news pose no threat to the Occidental College campus and surrounding neighborhoods, smoke from a local fire has affected campus air quality.

California Brushfires

5:20 p.m. The Occidental College campus remains unaffected by the California brushfires currently in the news, including the Getty Fire in Los Angeles, the Easy Fire in Simi Valley, and the Hillside Fire in San Bernardino.

Grass Fire on Fiji Hill

2:30 p.m. All clear. The grass fire on Fiji Hill has been extinguished. LAFD is on the scene, dropping water as a precaution.

Saddleridge Fire

5:10 p.m.  The Saddleridge fire, located about 20 miles northwest of the Oxy campus on the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley, continues to burn to the north and west, carrying it away from Oxy.

Campus telephone service outage

3:35 p.m. The College's telephone service provider has restored all telephone service on campus. The telephone system is back to normal.

Brushfire Near 134 Freeway

9 a.m. Freeways are open and no smoke is showing as firefighters finish up work on the 30-acre fire that broke out near the junction of the 134 and 2 freeways Sunday afternoon.

Fourth of July Weekend Quakes

8:50 p.m. The second earthquake in two days to shake Southern California, centered close to the first, hit at 8:19 p.m. today. As was the case with the first, the Oxy campus was unaffected by the shaking.

Oxy and Southern California Wildfires

4 p.m. While the Woolsey fire in the Malibu-Santa Monica Mountains area is approximately 30 miles to the west, we want to reassure everyone that the Oxy campus is not threatened by these wildfires.
