Human Rights Abuses and Political Persecution in El Salvador

Ovidio Mauricio, the director of Tutela Legal Dra. Maria Julia Hernandez, a leading human rights organization in El Salvador, will visit campus on October 5th to discuss his work helping defend thousands of people who have been arbitrarily detained under the State of Exception, a suspension of various constitutional rights that was imposed in March 2022. The State of Exception has led to mass arrests and widespread human rights abuses, including the deaths of over 150 people while in custody.
