The Politics Department is looking forward to hosting Osita Nwanevu, a contributing editor at The New Republic and a columnist at The Guardian. You can also find his work at The New Yorker, Slate, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, The Nation, Harper’s Magazine, the Columbia Journalism Review, In These Times, and Flaming Hydra. His first book, The Right of the People: Democracy and the Case for a New American Founding, was recently published by Random House in August 2025.

Nwanevu is the former editor in chief of the South Side Weekly, a Chicago alternative newspaper, and holds degrees in public policy from the University of Chicago. He was born in Arlington, Virginia and lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
