An evening of shorts and music videos curated by Womxn in Windows founder Zehra Zehra, exploring resistance through rhythm.

Please join us for an evening of short films and music videos highlighting the works of women and nonbinary artists and directors. The videos use dance and the body to express ideas that are important to each artist. Through these works we are called to explore acts of resistance through movement and sexuality as a response to identity, patriarchy, colonisation and our current political climate.

[CANCELLED] Unfortunately, the Making Space: Movement & Somatics for Body Liberation workshop scheduled for tonight (7/25 at 5:30pm) has been cancelled due to illness. All attendees have been emailed and donation-based tickets have been refunded.

JOYLAND is an Urdu and Punjabi-language Pakistani drama film written and directed by Saim Sadiq in his feature film directorial debut. It was the first Pakistani film to be shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards. It won the Jury Prize and Queer Palm Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. JOYLAND is an achingly honest, luminous drama tackling gender and desire.

Join us at the OXY ARTS gallery from 5:30-7:00 pm on June 29th for a free PRIDE themed workshop facilitated by artists Rory Hayes and Cielo Mansilla. This is an RSVP only event with a recommended age of 16+ due to potential discussion topics.

Rory and Cielo will be leading participants through a zine making and printmaking activity as well as providing ample space for open discussion about queer BIPOC resistance.

Join us for an art workshop facilitated by Mandy Harris Williams of the FCCW exploring the use of social media as a tool of resistance. Participants will consider and create through multiple mediums (visual, text, video, etc), innovate and share best practices, and develop their own social media praxis.

Join us at the OXY ARTS gallery from 5:30-7:00 pm on July 13th for a free workshop/drop-in session facilitated by our staff. We will be creating collage art while under the inspiration of our current exhibition.

for the sake of dancing in the street is a group exhibition celebrating the interconnectedness of feminist and queer resistance. Featured artists include LASTESIS, Morehshin Allahyari, and Yasmine Nasser Diaz.

Celebrate the opening of for the sake of dancing in the street with a live DJ, food, drinks and dancing along with special dance performances activating the exhibition.

The collective TCS (Téa Devereaux, Simrin Player, and Chryssa Hadjis) will perform an original dance piece commissioned in response to Yasmine Nasser Diaz’s installation, For Your Eyes Only. The performance will be set to the FYEO soundtrack composed by Carol Ohair. Live DJ set by Lara Sarkissian. 

This exhibition features original work by K-12 artists representing all 22 schools in our Eagle Rock / Highland Park Community of Schools. 

Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, May 13th from 11:00 a.m - 1pm.
The exhibition will be on view from May 15 - 18th, 11am - 4pm. 

Award-winning poet and sound artist, Jonah Mixon-Webster, will give a reading of his work, as part of Occidental College’s Visiting Writers Series. The reading will be followed by an interview and Q&A session with Occidental’s Writer-in-Residence, Chekwube Danladi.

All are welcome. Registration is required for this event, as space is limited. Masks are highly recommended.
