Join Occidental College President Harry J. Elam Jr. in conversation with Jacqueline Woodson, author of Red at the Bone: A Novel, on Tuesday, August 18 at 2 p.m. This will be the first event in the College’s new Community Book Program, in which the entire Oxy community will be invited to read the same book and come together to discuss its themes and importance through shared programs.

SLICE offers involvement opportunities and programs that center on identity construction, intercultural communication and community engagement. Putting Oxy’s values into action, SLICE intentionally focuses on meaning-making and transformative learning on campus and in the public sphere.
The LGBTQIA+ community is endlessly resilient, and yet, COVID-19 has shed light on the many public health disparities for minoritized communities. Folks who identify as LGBTQIA+ are particularly vulnerable as we adapt to social distancing and self-isolation, and perhaps face greater challenges finding support. Micol Garinkol, ICC Office Supervisor, will facilitate a workshop to enhance connectedness, provide advocacy, and create space to cope with challenges specific to LGBTQIA+ identity.

Join us as we engage in a variety of meditation and spiritual practices such as mindful sitting meditation, lectio divina and other contemplative practices. These practices provide a way to focus on one's mental and spiritual health. Rev. Dr. Susan Young will lead the workshop. Every Monday from July 13th through 27th.
