Career Planning

The mission of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine includes excellence in medical education, discoveries in translational science, and improving community health. Located in Ohio State, CWRU recruits diverse students nationwide including California (2021 Class Size: 216; 31 are from California). Christian Essman, Senior Director of Admissions & Financial Aid, will share more about their medical programs and their admissions process.

As a Horseshoe Farm Fellow, participants will make positive impacts in the community by working with patients and physicians in a "health partners" program, working with children through in-school and after school programs, and working with seniors and other vulnerable adults in community center programs and housing programs. Project Horseshoe Farm is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with sites in Greensboro and Marion, Alabama and Pomona, California. PHF offers service and support programs to improve the health and quality of life of adults and children in our partner communities.

Through the COPE Health Scholars Program, students who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare will gain direct patient-care experience in different areas and will learn about the administrative side of healthcare. Other advantages:

Take a deep dive into MCAT preparation with Prof. Babak Hassanzadeh. As a former medical school student and an MCAT instructor with 500+ teaching hours, Babak will be sharing advice on how to study for the MCAT through cracking sample questions, how to focus on high-yield topics, and how to find effective/low-cost resources. We will be raffling one FREE Kaplan MCAT prep course!

Dr. Linton Yee, Associate Dean for Admissions, will share information about their program and offer strategies for those who are applying to medical schools.

Born in Russia, Alya studied music and dance as a child and never lost her passion for the arts. As a young woman, she pursued a career in journalism, earning a degree from Moscow State University, and worked as a correspondent for Russia’s leading network, Ria Novosti, covering several of the biggest stories of the day, including the Kursk submarine disaster in 2000 and the Beslan school siege in 2004.
