More information on Occidental’s policy following the recent updated CDC guidance on mask wearing.
Dear Oxy,
Following up from my email yesterday, I am writing to share the guidance provided by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health regarding indoor masking policies.
As you may recall, yesterday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidance that eases the requirements for masking and physical distancing among those who have been fully vaccinated, “except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.”
At this time, the State of California and Cal OSHA has not modified the masking and social distancing requirements in public and workplace environments. Given the CDCs deferral to local and state guidance, Occidental will continue with masking and social distancing policies for all indoor activities until the State and Cal OSHA determine it is safe to do so. We expect further guidance from the State by June 15.
In terms of outdoor masking, LA County has relaxed the rules for masking outdoors except in large and/or crowded events. As such, commencement will remain a masked and socially distanced event and we ask participants and attendees to respect these safety precautions during post-commencement outdoor gatherings on campus as well.
Thank you again for your support and patience as we continue to navigate these exciting changes!
Be well,
