5:20 p.m. The Occidental College campus remains unaffected by the California brushfires currently in the news, including the Getty Fire in Los Angeles, the Easy Fire in Simi Valley, and the Hillside Fire in San Bernardino.

  • No fires are close to Occidental or threaten the College. The Getty Fire is located 16 miles west of campus; the Easy Fire is 35 miles to the west; and the Hillside Fire is more than 50 miles to the east.
  • Campus air quality remains in the good to moderate range. The College continues to monitor conditions, which can change hour by hour.
  • Predicted high winds have not hit the Occidental campus.
  • There have been no power interruptions.

Oct. 30, 12:05 p.m. The Occidental College campus remains unaffected by the California brushfires currently in the news, including the Getty Fire in Los Angeles and the Easy Fire in Simi Valley.

  • No fires are close to Occidental or threaten the College. The Getty Fire is located 16 miles west of campus, and is burning south and west, taking it farther away from campus. The Easy Fire, which broke out today near the Reagan Presidential Library, is 35 miles to the west and also burning in a southwesterly direction.
  • Campus air quality remains in the good to moderate range. The College continues to monitor conditions, which can change hour by hour.
  • Predicted high winds have not hit the Occidental campus up to this point. Maximum wind speed on campus this morning was 5 mph.
  • There have been no power interruptions. Occidental is served by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; the large preventative outages in the news are in areas served by Pacific Gas & Electric in northern and central California.
