Guest Accommodations at Samuelson Alumni Center

Occidental College offers 5 hotel-style suites at a nightly rate. The suites offer a wide range of amenities, including being within walking distance of classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, and other campus facilities.

Accommodations

The Samuelson Alumni Center is a non-smoking facility. Our rooms feature a variety of amenities, such as complimentary cable television, complimentary high-speed Internet, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, refrigerator, and bed linens.

All suites include the following features:

  • Air-conditioning

  • Basic furnishings (bed, dresser, desk, desk chair)
  • Bed linen and towels
  • Microwave and mini-fridge
  • Lounge access

  • Free Parking

Room Rate: $150/night for internal guests.

Check-in and Checkout Information:

  • Check-in time is 2:00 PM the day of arrival
  • Check-out time is 12:00 PM on the day of departure. 

We can accommodate early check-in and late checkouts, but please let us know in advance.

Campus Amenities

  • Internet: Free internet access is available to guests (See how to access here).
  • ATM: There is one ATM located on the 1st floor of Johnson Student Center, near the Postal Operations Center. It is generally accessible Monday-Friday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Free parking: Permits are required, and will be provided when you check-in to your room.

Guests who fall in this category might be subject to additional requirements pending the reason for needing to stay.

  • Student Organizations or Clubs who are looking to request a room for a guest must go through SLICE. SLICE will need to submit the room reservation request on Student Organizations or Clubs behalf.
  • We are unable to accommodate unaccompanied minors

We will follow up via email with the required information below in order to finalize your reservation:

REQUIRED INFORMATION FOR CONFIRM BOOKING

  • Account number and account name to charge - or if your guests is paying via cc, in which case they'll get a link 7 days before the reservation to pay via card.
  • Oxy affiliate's cell phone or a number that can be reached 24/7 for Campus Safety to use just in case of an emergency with your guest.
  • Does your guest require any special accommodations (no stairs, service animal, etc.)?
  • Will the guest be bringing a vehicle?
  • Guest name, email address, and phone number (required to send check-in details)
  • An image of guests that we can share with Campus Safety and Alumni so they know guests are permitted to stay in the Samuelson Alumni Center.

For Internal Departmental Charges (IDC)

  • Oxy department account is to be used to cover costs. 
  • No payment is collected at the time of reservation request. 
  • Department transfers will happen at the end of the month for each stay.

Credit Card

  • No payment is collected at the time of reservation request.
  • You will recieve an invoice via Hostfully 7 days prior to your arrival to pay the balance in full.

  • Maximum occupancy for each room is 2 persons.
  • 5 rooms, 1 on the first floor, 4 on the second floor. 
  • All rooms have keycard access.

  • General Info
    • Occidental College does not provide transportation services or vehicles.
    • There are only two designated visitor parking spots located in the parking lot behind the Samuelson Alumni Center. These are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 
    • Guests can also utilize street parking or the Main Entrance Parking Lot across the street.
    • The College does not assume responsibility for property stolen or damaged in the College’s parking lots. 
    • All guests operating vehicles on campus property are solely responsible for complying with Occidental College Driving & Parking Regulations.
  • Parking Permits
    • Campus parking is free, but a permit is required.
    • Guests: Parking permits will be in the room and should be left in the room upon departure.
    • Permits must be displayed at all times when parked on campus.

  • Get emergency help
    • Oxy’s Campus Safety Office provides security and emergency response services for the College 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reach them at 323-259-2599.
    • Contact the City of Los Angeles Emergency Services by calling 911 (or dial 9 + 911 from any campus phone).

In the event of a power outage, a dedicated emergency generator will keep College servers and telephones running. News bulletins will be posted on the front page of the College website and at the main campus phone number: 323-259-2500. Should local phone circuits become jammed or otherwise unavailable, you may call our out-of-state emergency hotline for updates: 1-866-961-3300.

FAQs

First you need to send us an email at samuelsoncenter@oxy.edu with what dates you are looking to reserve a room and how many rooms you are looking to reserve. Then we continue with the next step of the room reservation process. More details about that process can be found under the Need to Know section above.

We accept Internal Departmental Charges (IDC), ACH or Check.

  • No charge if canceled 72 hours before Check-in (by 3:00 PM, 3 days in advance)
  • 1 night’s charge for cancellations submitted less than 72 hours before Check-in

  • Check-in is anytime after 2:00 PM
  • Checkout is anytime before 10:00 AM

Both processes are self-check-in and self-checkout. Instructions are emailed to guests 1 week before check-in.

There are two locations when looking for food on campus

If meal money was not added to your card, you can pay with any major credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Cash at all the above locations.

Yes! However, please note you would have to meet outside the building as the main exterior doors require card access to enter the building.

If you stay more than 3 days, services can be provided upon request only. Services are usually scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

No. Unfortunately, you do not have access to a washer and dryer.

  • Lost or damaged cards → $25 (non-refundable)
  • Charges are added to the invoice and must be paid.
  • Replacement cards are typically provided the next business day.
