In this exciting, fast-paced session, participants will take the first steps towards the creation and development of self-generated works of solo theater. Through both innovative and traditional movement and vocal techniques, learners will tap into and re-discover characters from their own communities, and be supported in bringing these unique characters dramatically to the stage.
The Stage Combat workshop will focus on the basic skills necessary for effective unarmed or hand-to-hand combat for the stage. Students will learn a choreographed fight with a partner that includes slaps, punches, kicks, chokes, rolls, and falls. The workshop will finish with student presentations of their fight to their peers and invited guests.
This is a two day workshop for Oxy students - students must attend both days. Space is limited and priority will be given to Theater majors and minors. Your student account will be charged $20 if you are a no show.

Can theater be narratively connected to other art (beyond traditional theater design), and how can the utilization of various forms of storytelling be merged into one cohesive narrative? What are the social and cultural implications in creating this work, and what are its challenges?
