The first in the series will be in the Brown Lab. In this workshop we will spend half the time on an introduction to library and other research resources, and then open up the remaining time to questions and consultations based on individual project work. We will be covering how to find a book (physically and electronically), locating scholarly articles and primary resources using databases, and how to order materials via resource sharing networks. We may dip into tools such as Zotero or others, upon request/interest.
Hot Coffee (89 min) exposes how corporations spent millions on a propaganda campaign to distort Americans' view of lawsuits, forever changing the civil justice system. From the infamous case of the woman who sued McDonald's over spilled coffee to the saga of the Mississippi Supreme Court Justice deemed 'not corporate enough' by business interests, this program tears apart the conventional wisdom about 'frivolous lawsuits.'
We will introduce ourselves, share our work & our history, and have fun! We hope to offer a space that engages community centered in Diversity and Equity while facilitating supportive, resourceful, and critical relationships between folks across campus. Free pupusas and aguas frescas will be provided!
Shannon Owens ('14) researches the molecular mechanism of homologus recombination DNA repair during meiosis to understand the regulation of crossover formation, accurate chromosone segregation, and the maintenance of genome stability. Please join us as she shares her work and how Oxy influenced her career trajectory.
