Cornerstone Theater Company is developing a play about Highland Park, inspired by significant changes in the neighborhood, and by the establishment of the Oxy Arts Community Center on York Blvd. Over the summer, Cornerstone will be hosting storytelling sessions to help determine what a Highland Park community play should be. They will present a play, inspired by and starring Highland Park residents, in the Fall.

A fundamental problem in understanding the behavior of convex sets is understanding how they intersect. In this talk, we show how systems of polynomial equations can help us with this problem, and learn about the fascinating motivation of this pure mathematical work from neuroscience.

Alisa Slaughter's essays, short fiction, and translations have most recently appeared in Flyway, terrain.org, and Santa Monica Review. Her collection of short fiction, Bad Habitats, was published in 2013 by Gold Line Press. She holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College and an MA in comparative literature from the University of Arizona and teaches at the University of Redlands.
