In keeping with our protocols, we are sharing the news that one of our staff members recently tested positive for COVID-19.
To the Oxy Community:
In keeping with our protocols, I write to inform you that one of our staff members recently tested positive for COVID-19. Emmons received the positive test result on Thursday, November 19 for a staff member who was tested as part of the routine testing protocol. The individual is asymptomatic and will be isolating at home for 10 days. Thanks to the de-densifying of this office space, mask wearing and social distancing, there were no additional employees who had close contact (less than 6 feet for 10 minutes or more) with the individual who tested positive. If you have not been contacted about this case, you have not been identified as being at risk of exposure.
In keeping with our policy, the staff members will not return to campus until after a 10 day period of isolation/quarantine. As mentioned in my previous Thanksgiving/winter break email, and given the rapid rise in cases in Los Angeles County, I highly recommend that all individuals who are working on campus this semester (non-essential workers) not return to on-campus work after Thanksgiving break.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been notified.
As a reminder, it is extremely important that you not come to work with any cold or flu symptoms, even mild ones, or potential exposures. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider and/or Emmons Wellness Center for next steps.
Be well,
Sara Semal, LPCC
