A summary of updates from Dean Sternberg related to the Commencement ceremony taking place on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As you are aware, this year's restricted in-person Commencement ceremony will be held on May 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Kemp Stadium.

While the pandemic situation has improved, there are still limitations on how we must proceed with our in-person Commencement ceremony. There are capacity and density restrictions, social distancing, and masking that we must still abide by for COVID prevention.  Due to these safety guidelines, we are not planning to have a faculty procession, nor are we able to extend a full invitation to all faculty for this year's ceremony.

The limited platform party will include faculty representation by Associate Dean Caro Brighouse, Faculty Council President John Lang, and incoming Faculty Council President Sharla Fett. Members of our senior leadership team will represent the College administration. We regret that we are not able to offer further invitations to faculty, staff or non-graduating students. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

The in-person Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 will be livestreamed. The link to the YouTube Premiere will be made available in the days preceding the ceremony and will go live on Sunday, May 16 at 10 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time). For more information please reference our Commencement website.

A virtual Baccalaureate service will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. Details for this event are also forthcoming. Please check our Commencement website as the date nears for more information as it becomes available.

We encourage you to watch the virtual Baccalaureate service on Saturday, May 15 and the live streamed Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 16.  Please contact Laura Crescenzo (crescenzo@oxy.edu) with any questions. For the cultural graduation celebrations, please contact Chris Arguedas (carguedas@oxy.edu) for more information.

We hope that you will be able to join us for these virtual events to celebrate the Class of 2021.

Best,
Dean Sternberg
