If you are considering applyng to the URC Summer Research Program, this workshop is for you! Oxy librarians will lead the session on elements to include to create a strong research proposal.

Explore the dimly lit aisles filled with eerie shadows and mysterious whispers. Get ready to encounter ghostly apparitions and haunted books that come to life. This is a spine-chilling event you won't want to miss! Come prepared to be scared and thrilled as you navigate through the haunted halls of the library. Are you brave enough to uncover the secrets lurking within The Haunted Library?

This one-hour introductory hands-on workshop will familiarize you with practices and techniques of letterpress. It is ideal for faculty to learn ways of utilizing letterpress into the curriculum.

In this workshop, you will:

• Distinguish and differentiate between primary and secondary sources.
• Explore and analyze how combining primary and secondary sources can lead to the development of novel research questions.
• Engage in scholarly dialogue by learning how to use of both primary and secondary sources can generate a conversation between themselves (as researchers) and published scholars.

This workshop will be in the Braun Room in Oxy Library.

This workshop is for both faculty and students. In it, you will:
 

• Identify three main areas of data (American Community Survey, Economic Census, Census of Governments)
• Practice using Census Data Tools and PUMS
• Access Census Resources including infographics and visualization
• Identify Census products to use in upcoming courses/assignments

This will be in LIB 15 in the library.

This workshop will introduce you to Special Collections, which holds rare and unique items such as early printed books, manuscripts, historical artifacts, ephemera, contemporary fine press and artist’s books. You can use many of these items to support your assignments, but you can also just look because you are curious!

This workshop will be held in the Braun Room of the Oxy Library.

In this student workshop, you will:

• Learn different criteria for determining whether or not a source is “good”
• Build a works cited page based on own criteria of what a “good” source is
• Identify type of source by reading citation
• Interact with different source types and consider how they interact with one another
• Learn & participate in an active learning activity centered on source analysis

Keenious Research Recommender is a research tool that uses AI to find resources based on written text. 

Learning Outcomes:

In this faculty workshop, you will:
 

• Learn what a StoryMap is and its capabilities
• Access the Esri ArcGIS suite and create a StoryMap
• Understand and replicate basic components of a StoryMap
• Adapt and plan a project using the platform
