Veteran TV writers/producers/show runners Tony Phelan and Joan Rater come to Occidental for a conversation with MAC professor Aleem Hossain about the art and business of television.
Phelan & Rater were writers and Executive Producers on Grey’s Anatomy for many years and went on to create the CBS series Doubt (starring Katherine Heigl), the NBC series Council of Dads, the CBS series Fire Country and the Humanitas Prize winning Disney+/Nat Geo series A Small Light.
This conversation will be an opportunity to hear two established and respected showrunners talk about their artistic collaboration, telling stories in episodic and serialized formats, carving out a career in TV and the state of the industry during the streaming and strike era.
