WASC Accreditation

Occidental College successfully completed the process of reaccreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 2012. 

Institutional accreditation in the United States is a voluntary and non-governmental process in which Occidental College participates as a public acknowledgment of the college's commitment to ongoing improvement in its educational effectiveness, especially with regard to student learning.

Occidental College was first accredited by WASC in 1949, and our last reaffirmation of accreditation took place in 2012. Updates on our current accreditation status can be found on the WASC Membership page.

The WASC accreditation process involved three phases that took place over approximately four years. Each phase included an institutional self-study report, and the last two included site visits from WASC-appointed peer evaluator teams. Oxy is preparing for our Mid-Cycle Review in Spring of 2017. Our next comprehensive site visit is scheduled for 2021.
