"Millie and the Lords": A film screening and discussion with director Jennica Carmona
Millie and the Lords follows one woman's journey from isolation and helplessness to strength and empowerment. Milagros Baez struggles with the daily pressures of life in El Barrio of New York City, longing for a different life but with little hope of achieving it. When she meets Mateo, a former member of the Young Lords Party, a revolutionary barrio organization of the 1970s, she learns about their activism and is inspired to forge a new path of possibility for herself.

The Tools of Writing Trickery
This is a workshop about tricking yourself into writing. About generating the first bold, scary seeds of brand new work. We will dive into a wide variety of short writing exercises that will expand your ability to surprise yourself with new subjects and new forms. We’ll focus on beginning the stories that feel to big or too personal to write. Writing is about collecting everything you find terrifying, beautiful, hilarious, heartbreaking, and hopeful in order to make something new—something more your own. This workshop is designed to make that process less daunting and more fun.
