Don't miss this requirement in your international application.

Occidental College offers both merit-based scholarships and limited need-based financial aid for international students. While all international applicants are considered for merit aid, need-based assistance is extremely limited and competitive. Read on to understand your options and responsibilities as an international applicant.

Merit-based scholarships

We offer merit scholarships to many international students each year. These awards recognize outstanding academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and personal achievement. All international applicants will be automatically considered for merit-based scholarships. No separate application is required for merit scholarship consideration.

Need-based financial aid

Need-based financial aid is available to a small number of international students each year—typically no more than a handful of students. These funds are awarded based on your family’s ability to contribute toward your education, determined by reviewing income and assets.

International Student Financial Form

All international applicants must submit the International Student Financial Form after you apply to Occidental. This form takes a couple of minutes to fill out and will be available in your application portal. Please note:

  • Submitting the form is required even if you do not plan to apply for need-based aid.
  • Aid packages for non-U.S. citizens are not guaranteed to meet full demonstrated need.

Occidental will verify the financial resources of all international applicants before issuing a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) for your F-1 student visa.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents living abroad should follow the standard instructions for applying for need-based financial aid.
