Dear Oxy Community,

I hope this email finds you healthy and successfully adjusting to our new world of learning and working remotely. My name is Alexandra Fulcher and I became Oxy’s Title IX Coordinator earlier this semester. In my short time at Oxy, I have had the chance to work with many members of the community; however, there are still many of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting. I wish that I had the opportunity to introduce myself outside the context of the global COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, and I hope to meet and work with many more of you once we are all back on campus.

During this time, the Title IX Office remains available remotely to anyone wishing to report an incident of sexual misconduct or seeking information about options and resources. We want to ensure that anyone who reports an experience involving sexual and gender-based harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, stalking, intimate partner violence, and retaliation feels safe, knows their rights, and is aware of all resources and options available to them. Any person with questions or concerns can contact me directly by email (afulcher@oxy.edu) or telephone (323-259-1338), or file a report online. I am closely monitoring email, phone, and online reports, and will respond promptly to any messages.

Even though students, faculty, and staff are currently in locations across the country and around the world, Oxy’s commitment to providing a safe and non-discriminatory educational environment remains the same. Oxy’s Sexual Misconduct Policy applies to all on-campus conduct, conduct that occurs within the context of the College’s employment and education programs and activities, and some off-campus conduct (including conduct that occurs on the phone, online, or over social media). The Title IX Office strongly encourages reports of sexual misconduct regardless of location. Even if the Sexual Misconduct Policy does not apply to the conduct because of its location, we will take prompt action to provide for the safety and well-being of the individuals impacted, as well as the broader campus community. For definitions of prohibited conduct and additional information regarding the scope of the Sexual Misconduct Policy, please review Oxy's Interim Sexual Misconduct Policy.

The College continues to offer confidential resources to serve and support our community. Survivor Advocate Marianne Frapwell (survivoradvocate@oxy.edu) provides free confidential counseling and advocacy to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence; the Oxy 24/7 Helpline (323-341-4141) provides 24/7 confidential phone counseling and referral services to all members of the community; and Emmons Wellness Center currently provides confidential telecounseling to all students in California and can assist out-of-state students in finding a local provider. The Sexual Respect and Title IX website features a complete list of available resources and additional information.

Regardless of what lies ahead, Oxy remains committed to our fundamental goal of eliminating sexual misconduct in the Oxy Community and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Fulcher | Title IX Coordinator
