Vaccination Information

Occidental requires all students, staff and faculty to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a 6-month booster shot, with proof of vaccination.

Updated 1/20/22

All students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated in order to be on campus, and were required to submit proof of vaccination by August 2, 2021. Our vaccination requirement allows for medical and religious exemptions. Those community members with approved exemptions will be subject to twice-weekly testing, as well as other preventative measures, to protect the health and well-being of the Oxy community.

A recently updated policy required a booster vaccine by January 18 for students and employees who do not already have approved exemptions. If you are not yet eligible for the booster vaccine, you are expected to obtain the booster within 30 days of becoming eligible. Note that the FDA recently changed its eligibility guidance to 5 months from the date of your second Pfizer/Moderna vaccination shot, and 2 months after vaccination with Johnson & Johnson.

For those individuals who are currently eligible but unable to get a booster in your home city, Oxy is not able to provide boosters on campus at this time (see alternative resources below). Once you have received your booster, please upload a record to

If I was recently COVID-19 positive and I have not yet received my booster, how long should I wait before getting boosted? Am I eligible for an extension or exemption from the booster requirement?

The CDC recommends waiting until your symptoms have cleared from your positive case until getting your booster. Oxy community members who were recently COVID-19 positive with documentation can wait up to 60 days after testing positive to get their booster. If your healthcare provider has given you alternative guidance on when to receive a booster, please provide a note from your healthcare provider.

Reporting Your Booster

To submit proof of your booster vaccination, please do the following:

  • Log into using your Oxy credentials.
  • Complete the 2-step verification.
  • On the front page, choose: Enter My COVID-19 Vaccine Information.

  • In the COVID-19 Vaccine History section, click Add Immunization.

  • Click “Done.” All fields may be updated at any time and new files can be uploaded to replace existing ones.

FAQs: Vaccinations & Vaccine Policy

How many people in our community are vaccinated?

As of August 25, there is an impressive 98% vaccination rate on campus across students, staff and faculty.

Will non-exempt employees receive time off from work to become vaccinated?

Yes, non-exempt employees will be released from their regular responsibilities to obtain each dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Employees should work with their supervisors to schedule time off to obtain the vaccine.

Does Oxy permit exemptions based on medical contraindication or sincerely held religious beliefs?

Yes, please see information on Vaccine Reporting and Exemptions.

If I have a disability that I believe impacts my ability to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (other than a medical contraindication or precaution to receive the vaccine as established by the CDC or manufacturer), will Oxy permit an exemption to the vaccination requirement?

Please contact Human Resources regarding any disability-related requests for accommodations related to Oxy’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement (other than requests for exemption based on medical contraindication to receive the vaccine). Oxy will provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with qualifying disabilities.

What are the consequences for not reporting vaccination status or otherwise complying with Oxy’s vaccination policy?

We appreciate that employees understand the importance of reporting vaccination status and the significant majority have, in fact, reported their status. It should be noted, however, that failure to report will be treated in the same way as a refusal to abide by any other College policy.  We would naturally try to work with employees to resolve any inadvertent non-compliance or individual challenges in getting and/or reporting vaccination, but deliberate or repeated non-compliance could result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Students may similarly be subject to disciplinary action through the Code of Student Conduct, which may include, but not be limited to, prohibition from accessing or using campus grounds or campus facilities. Student violations of College policy will be handled by the Office of Student Conduct pursuant to the Student Code of Conduct.

How do event planners and employees check vaccination status for non-Oxy visitors?

Find instructions for groups that are running events or have occasion to check vaccination status.
