Oxy’s isolation guidelines are in line with those of the State of California, County of Los Angeles, and the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Oxy continues to follow Los Angeles County guidelines for contact tracing and exposure management when we identify positive cases on campus.
If you have questions about your isolation period or want to report a positive test, contact covidops@oxy.edu .
For Students
As we’ve moved into a more endemic phase of COVID-19, Oxy has shifted to an isolate-in-place model, in which on-campus residents will be able to isolate in their own rooms, according to LA County isolation guidelines, should they test positive for COVID. Those who test positive and live on campus will receive instructions from REHS and the Emmons COVID Operations team with isolation guidance. Roommates who are immunocompromised will be given the option to relocate to a temporary room until their roommate has recovered from COVID. More details will be given to students in these situations as the need arises. If your roommate tests positive, please follow LA County exposure guidance for close contacts, wear a well-fitting mask indoors around others for 10 days, and get tested 3-5 days after exposure to minimize the risk of spreading illness.
For Employees
- Anyone who tests positive for COVID must alert covidops@oxy.edu, and isolate (stay home) for a minimum of 5 full days
- COVID Ops will communicate isolation dates and guidelines directly to the employee
- Individuals may leave isolation, beginning on Day 6, if these criteria are met:
- Fever-free for the past 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications
- No symptoms or symptoms that are mild and improving
- On Day 6 or later, as long as the above criteria are met, individuals are free to leave isolation
- There is no longer a requirement to test negative on a rapid test in order to leave isolation between Day 6 and Day 10
- Please note that individuals are still required to wear a well-fitting mask around other people through Day 10, regardless of when they exit isolation
