Oxy’s isolation guidelines are in line with those of the State of California, County of Los Angeles, and the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Updated 1/19/24

If you have questions about your isolation period or want to report a positive test, contact covidops@oxy.edu. COVID isolation guidance has changed, and length of isolation will be determined by your symptoms.

  • If you are COVID positive WITH symptoms:

    • Stay home until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication AND your other COVID-19 symptoms are gone or mild and improving.

    • Mask when you are around other people for 10 days after you become sick. You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. Day 0 is your symptom onset date or the day you tested positive, whichever came first.

  • If you are COVID positive WITHOUT symptoms:

    • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and have no symptoms are not required to isolate, but are required to wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask whenever around other people for 10 days following the positive test result.

    • You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. Day 0 is your positive test date.

  • Emmons and HR do not provide tests for those trying to test negative in order to remove their masks earlier than Day 10.
