We encourage you to pursue both academic and non-academic internship experiences in multiple areas.

Interning allows you to clarify career interests, gain invaluable skills and begin to build a professional network. While searching for an internship sounds like a daunting task, the Hameetman Career Center can help! Students can schedule an appointment to meet one-on-one with a career counselor or browse some of the resources we have available:

Career Services Resources

This platform helps you access paid and unpaid internships for Fall, Spring or Summer.  As an Occidental college student, you just need to activate your Handshake account and create your profile. The Career Services team is available to help you create an effective profile and strong resume you can upload to your profile.

Search, select, and store job postings from a wide variety of job listings and employers.  Access information about Oxy Alumni, companies and organizations. Apply directly to jobs and manage your account securely from any computer 24/7. Use your Oxy student email address to create your CareerShift account for FREE!
The Hameetman Career Center has also partnerned with to offer students another great resource for looking for and applying to internships. has the vast internship database with tens of thousands of active listings for summer, fall, winter, and spring. You can customize your search by company size, city or major zip code, major, or keyword. In addition, it offers the Internship Predictor™ which assists students navigate which internship opportunity is best suited for your interests.

Academic Opportunities
Oxy offers several courses and practicums that provide valuable internship or fieldwork experiences. Some majors, such as UEP, Psychology, Politics, Physics, and others require and/or offer internships through the major. In addition, there are some departments have internship opportunities, like the Theater department is able to offer the Summer Edgerton Internships.

On-Campus Resources
There are also a number of departments on campus that can assist you in your search for internships. For example, the IPO office offers internship opportunities internationally, and the History Department has partnerships with the Autry National Center to offer year-long internship opportunities.

Direct Marketing Approach
Not finding something in your occupational area of interest or geographic region? You may need to identify organizations of interest and broach them directly. To learn how to approach organizations, we encourage you to make an appointment with a career counselor.
