Some helpful reminders and information to ensure a stress-free Check-in

Start Planning Now

You must submit payment for your full balance at least 10 days before the Check-in date on your agreement – no exceptions. If you fail to make payment by the deadline:

  • Your agreement is canceled
  • You will have no housing
  • You lose your $500 Reservation Deposit

  • Check-in: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Please give us a 2-hour window for your anticipated arrival time: Email conference@oxy.edu
  • Sorry, we are unable to accommodate requests for early / late Check-in.
  • Informal campus tours will be provided by our staff on Check-in dates at these times:
    • 2:00 PM
    • 4:00 PM
    • 6:00 PM
  • Tours are optional and no advance signup is needed

Request a parking permit

  • Permits are free but must be requested in advance.
  • If you request a permit now, it will be issued at Check-in.
  • Required information: Vehicle make, model, color, license plate number, state of issue (if you are renting a car, you may provide the info at Check-in)

Necessary / useful stuff… bring it or buy it when you arrive:

  • Clothes hangers
  • Towels
  • Pillow / bedding (Twin XL)
  • Swimsuit & beach towel
  • Workout gear
  • Toiletries (bring everything except toilet paper)
  • Extension cord (heavy-duty UL listed only)
  • Desk lamp (rooms have overhead lights)
  • A few dining utensils / plates / cups (every room / suite has a microfridge)
  • Cleaning supplies

Don’t bring these items:

  • Candles, incense, or anything with an open flame
  • Appliances with heating elements, or anything that uses over 800 watts of electricity: Hot plates, coffee pots, toaster ovens, space heaters, air conditioners, halogen lamps (hair dryers are okay)
  • Microwave or mini-fridge (every room / suite has one!)
  • Pets
  • Firearms, knives, ammunition, bows/arrows or anything that resembles a weapon
  • Marijuana is prohibited on campus. The College allows no exceptions to this policy, including possession or use for medical purposes.

Picking up mail / packages
Where :

  • Mail and smaller packages are typically delivered to the Postal Operations Center (POC).
  • Larger packages typically go to the Facilities Stockroom.
  • Items may not be directed to specific buildings or locations on campus.
  • The College cannot provide equipment or assistance loading, unloading, or transporting mailed or shipped items.

When :

Ordering from Amazon? Pick up Anytime!

  • Pick up 24 / 7 → Amazon lockers on campus
  • Specify delivery location: Amazon Hublocker - Monument at Occidental College, 1600 Campus Rd. LA 90041-3314
  • Amazon sends you a keypad pickup code to open the locker.
  • If your package is too large for a locker, it will be delivered to Oxy’s Postal Operation Center.

Arrival Day

  • Your government-issued photo ID (so we know it’s you)
  • Parking permit info (optional): Vehicle make, model, color, license plate number, state of issue

  • Address: 1600 Campus Road, Los Angeles, CA 90041
  • Park here: Visitor & Admission Parking lot
    • Parking is free and no permit is required.
  • Leave your luggage / packed items in your car
  • Short walk to the Conference Services office (Bengal Room, 1st floor of Johnson Student Center)
  • Expect Check-in to take 30 - 45 minutes
  • Return to your car
  • Our staff will meet you near your car, and escort you to your housing

What is included

  • Get your Oxy photo ID (also serves as access & meal card)
  • Get your housing assignment & room condition report
  • Get a parking permit (if requested in advance)
  • Get your Check-in packet (includes wi-fi password, and other immediate “need to know” info)

Room Condition Report
Your Check-in Packet will include a copy of your Room Condition Report (RCR). You should inspect the condition of your room at arrival to confirm the accuracy of the RCR. Notify Conference Services of any inaccuracies immediately, at conference@oxy.edu.

  • Meet outside the Conference Services office (Check-in location)
  • This is an informal walking tour, conducted by our staff
  • 45 minutes - 1 hour
  • Includes: Marketplace dining facility, Bookstore, Postal Operations, Amazon lockers, Fitness Center, Pool, JPL shuttle location, and other sites
  • Tours are optional; no advance signup is needed
  • Tour schedule (all Check-in dates):
    • 2:00 PM
    • 4:00 PM
    • 6:00 PM

  • Sunday hours for campus food (the Marketplace)
    • Lunch: 11:00 AM - 1:15 PM
    • Dinner: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
    • On SUN 5/19 and SUN 5/26 there will be no food services available. Please plan accordingly. 
  • Sunday hours for other campus services
    • Fitness Center: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
    • Pool: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • Bookstore: Closed weekends
    • Postal Operations: Closed weekends (no mail / shipping pick ups)
