The Hameetman Career Center (HCC) is Occidental College's primary resource for career preparation and internships. We believe it's never too early to begin thinking about life after Occidental and to set yourself up for success.
First-Year Student Employment Preparation (STEP) Program
The STEP program offers eligible first-year work-study students the chance to apply for program-participating on-campus jobs. We encourage all eligible first-year students to seize this opportunity. While there is no guarantee of selection, applying is an additional way that first-year work-study-eligible students can find a rewarding on-campus job.
To meet the requirements to apply to STEP in the fall, you must attend two workshops—resume writing and interview preparation–which will be offered in August and September. We encourage incoming first-year students to get a head start by completing each workshop during the first week of August:

Activating Your Handshake Account
The career center uses the Handshake platform to manage its career preparation programs. You will use your oxy.edu account credentials to set up and log in to your Handshake account. Once your Handshake account is set up, you can register for workshops, events, explore our resources, and build your profile by adding any previous work or volunteer experience. A complete profile will increase your chances of being contacted by a recruiter for a job or internship opportunity.
