How to Make a Complaint

Occidental College is committed to serving its students with professionalism and respect.   

Any student who is dissatisfied with a campus policy or the conduct of a College employee or other member of the community is encouraged to direct their complaint to the appropriate College representative identified below.  That representative will explain the process for addressing your particular complaint and will answer any questions you have about the complaint process. If, after investigation, a problem is identified, the College will take prompt and appropriate action.

If you believe that your complaint warrants further attention, and if your complaint is about the College’s compliance with academic program quality and accrediting standards, you may contact the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) at wascsenior.org/comments. WASC is the academic accrediting body for Occidental College.

An individual may also contact the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education for review of a complaint. The bureau may be contacted at:

The Bureau accepts all types of complaints related to the College, and may refer any complaint it receives including complaints related to institutional policies or procedures, or both, to the College, an accrediting agency, or another appropriate entity for resolution. Complaints against the College (based on race, color, national origin, sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation), disability, and age or any other characteristic protected by state or federal law) may be made to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR).  The OCR may be contacted at:
