An update from Residential Education & Housing Services about campus housing for the Fall 2020 semester.
Earlier in June, we announced plans to reopen campus with reduced density and a mix of in-person and remote instruction in Fall 2020. We also said that the health and safety of students, staff and faculty are paramount, and that our plans would be subject to change should the pandemic worsen. Regrettably, the pandemic has taken a turn for the worse in Los Angeles County, as it has across California and dozens of other states. A review of the latest data and consultation with our infectious disease experts, as well as faculty, staff, and student leaders, have led us to conclude that we must shift our earlier plans regarding the fall.
For the Fall 2020 semester, all instruction will be remote and—with limited exceptions—we will not bring students back to campus. Housing will only be available for returning international students and those returning students who are facing significant housing hardships. No first-year students are eligible to petition for on-campus housing. Regrettably, all prior housing assignments from spring—including Themed Living, disability accommodations, and those made in June regarding first-year students—are no longer possible.
