Some preliminary information about your transition to Oxy.
Dear incoming Spring Transfer Students,
We are eagerly awaiting your arrival in January! Read on to get a sense of what to expect during some of your first moments on campus; specifically, during Orientation and Move-In.
Set up your Oxy account
You received an email about setting up your Oxy account; if you haven't done so, please set up your account in order to begin your onboarding process.
Setting up your Student ID
Now, go ahead and set up your student ID card. This card is important; it's the key to your dorm room, academic buildings and facilities on campus, your gym pass, your way to pay for meals, and much more.
You will need a (recent) picture of yourself from the shoulders up. Once you have this picture—saved in .jpg format—you will submit it, via email, to Oxy's Card Office at cardoffice@oxy.edu. The subject line of this email should read "Spring Transfer Student." The body of your email should include your full name, preferred name (if applicable) and Oxy ID "A Number." Please also include a PIN number containing 4 numbers of your choice.
If you have any questions about these instructions, please email Card Services at the address above.
Orientation
Over the course of the fall and winter, we have been planning a fantastic Orientation experience for you! We also have an enthusiastic group of dedicated current students—known as O-Team—who cannot wait to meet you and lead you through your first few days on campus. We guarantee a welcoming and seamless transition to our community.
On our New Students website, you can view your full Orientation schedule under the "Spring 2023 Orientation" dropdown banner. Please take time to carefully read the Spring 2023 Orientation schedule in its entirety. Over the span of 4 days, you will have the opportunity to nurture meaningful connections, build friendships with new peers and gain access to valuable resources and departments on campus!
Please remember that all of the Orientation sessions are mandatory. We have scheduled plenty of snack breaks and downtime to rest, but be prepared to engage with us from Thursday, January 19, through Sunday, January 22.
Housing (if applicable)
In your application, you indicated an interest in living on campus. Admitted students who commit to Oxy by December 9, 2022 (and indicated an interest in on-campus housing on their application), are confirmed for housing. Oxy's Residential Education and Housing Services (REHS) office will reach out to you soon about housing opportunities. Please keep in mind that due to limited availability of housing in the middle of the academic year, students will be housed in a double or triple (single rooms are not available*). Housing may be available for spring transfer students who commit after December 9 on a case-by-case and space-available basis; information will be provided later in the winter. If you have any questions about on campus housing, please contact Monique Hankerson, Associate Director of Housing Services, at mhankerson@oxy.edu.
*If you have a medical need for a housing accommodation due to a documented medical or psychiatric disability, or have questions about housing accommodations, please review the Housing Accommodation Policy on the Disability Services website and contact Disability Services directly at accessibility@oxy.edu or (323) 259-2969.
Move-In (if applicable)
For those living on campus, move-in will take place in the morning on Thursday, January 19, between 9–10:30 AM. Details about where to enter campus and how to find the Check-In station are coming soon.
Once again, we can't wait to see you here at Oxy in a little over a month. In the meantime, keep an eye on your email for more important dates and deadlines. And, if you haven't yet, join our Discord to begin connecting with new classmates!
If you have any questions about Move-In and Orientation, please send us an email at orientation@oxy.edu or swillison@oxy.edu and we will get back to you as soon as possible. For other questions about your transition to Oxy, simply reply to this email.
Io Triumphe!
