2022 Edgerton Summer Internships

The Department of Theater and Performance Studies pleased to announce that, through the generosity of the Edgerton Foundation, funding is available to support two 2022 full summer internships (full-time for aproximately 10-weeks.)

Internships with a profesional THEATER company may be anywhere in the United States. Underfunded or unpaid internships will receive priority for consideration as will applications for declared TPS majors or minors. Applications and Instructions coming soon.

LA Department of Arts & Culture: Applications for 2022 Summer Internships will open on April 1, 2022!

For the past two years, the Department of Arts and Culture internships have been remote, and have extended beyond summer. This coming summer, the hope is to return to in-person or hybrid positions, taking place in the summer over 10 weeks. The paid positions were paid $6000.00 for 400 hrs. of work over 10 weeks, give or take. The positions will be across a broad spectrum of cultural and arts organizations including Theater companies, in areas of education, community outreach, production, fund-raising, etc. 


 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE:

The Center Theatre Group is offering 3 undergraduate-level internships and 1 graduate-level fellowship; 2 of the undergraduate internships are offered through the LA County Department of Arts and Culture. These are paid internship opportunities. All require an application, cover letter and business resume, and some have additional requirements outlined in the Internship Descriptions. Undergraduate-level applications are due by 5pm PT on May 6 and Graduate-level applications are due by 5pm PT on April 29; internships may be filled before the deadline. The LA County Department of Arts & Culture is offering a series of internships this summer. Positions for the 2022 Arts Internship Program went live on the DACDAC website on Friday, April 1, 2022. Additional positions will be posted in May, June, and July. Students must be currently enrolled in community college or four year university and be a resident of or attend school in LA County. Grants staff is engaging community colleges in "Info Sessions" taking place now through April. Application information is here.

Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon has Professional Acting Internships available. Self-tape auditions are due March 10. Contact Program Manager Julia Lisa for more information. Theatricum Botanicum creates internship opportunities each season in Production, Arts Education, Arts Administration, and Development as well. The Playwrights' Center, Minneapolis, MN - seasonal apprenticeships (August 2022-August 2023) - Applications due by March 4. 


There are many ways to enhance your training as a Theater student at Occidental College, including the Undergraduate Summer Research and Study Abroad. You can also deepen your experience and make connections for your post-Oxy career through summer internships. You may elect to enroll in INT100 (0-units) or INT200 (2-units and a nominal enrollment fee) while undertaking an internship but this is not required. After your first year, you may consider taking on an internship during the fall or spring. You can find internships by contacting the Hameetman Career Center.
